Phase 2: Restart Mandurah

The affects of COVID-19 globally are unprecedented and are likely to impact our community for many years to come. Things may not ever go back to how they were before and the significant economic impacts will be felt for some time.

Based on the best health advice for WA and the National Cabinet principles, the City of Mandurah has aligned its effort to:
1. Respond, and 2. Restart.

At a Special Council Meeting on 12 May, Council endorsed Restart Mandurah which focuses on reigniting Mandurah’s economy during Phase 2, commencing Monday 18 May 2020.

Restart Mandurah has three key initiatives to support the community via rate and fee savings, creating a $5 million COVID Fund, and supporting our businesses with a new Economic Taskforce, local spending and increasing visitors.

1. Rates & Fee Relief - $4.48 million in rate and fee relief

0% residential rate increase
5% business rate decrease
0% increase on fees and charges
Rates due date extended to November

$170,000 waived inspection fees for food premises and annual licence fees for caravan parks and camping grounds
Sporting clubs and groups facility fees waived during closures

2. COVID Restart Fund - $5 million COVID Fund created

15 local projects initiated for local business to tender for and generate local employment
Changes to procurement values to make it easier to award local business

Support local businesses to adjust to the new rules and try recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic
$2 million worth of construction jobs accelerated
$2.785 million for other Restart Mandurah initiatives

3. Economic Taskforce & Business Support

Support job creation
Help local businesses to adjust business models
Advocate for long-term economic diversification
Connect with education and training

$170,000 fee relief
Destination promotion to increase visitor numbers and local spending
Facilitate investment attraction opportunities

Announced live on Coast Live, Megan Reynolds is the WA Day Local Legend winner!
The manager of Food Bank Peel, Megan was nominated by her husband Scott for helping those in need during COVID.
Demand for help from Food Bank surged, but much of their volunteer base was not permitted to leave home, as they are over 70.
Megan stepped up and worked 14 hour days distributing emergency relief at Food Bank, and then came home to work online sourcing more food from retailers. She put her family in second place to help others in need during this time.
A big thank you to all our Local Legends - our community is forever grateful!
On WA Day Megan and 10 friends attended a live concert at Redmanner Waterfront Restaurant featuring local musicians from Bleeding Ear Music, supported by the City of Mandurah and Coast FM.

From Monday 18 May some City facilities will start to reopen in accordance with Phase 2 easing of restrictions and Government guidelines.

Download City's Facility Operations for information on which facilities are reopening and changes to services.

Visit mandurah.wa.gov.au/reopen to stay up to date with ongoing changes.
