Recognising culture and Country in Mandurah’s evolution

The Mandurah Centre Plan is an opportunity to embed First Nations perspectives, cultural heritage, and knowledge into the city’s future planning. The City of Mandurah wants to meaningfully engage with Traditional Owners, Elders, and First Nations community members to ensure that development:

  • Acknowledges and respects cultural heritage in Mandurah's centre.
  • Protects significant sites and landscapes connected to Noongar culture.
  • Integrates First Nations knowledge into sustainable urban planning and design.
  • Creates opportunities for Indigenous representation in decision-making.

The City is committed to engaging in a genuine and ongoing dialogue to ensure that:

  • First Nations voices are heard in shaping the future of Mandurah’s centre.
  • Cultural heritage and landscapes are protected and respected.
  • Opportunities for cultural expression in public spaces and urban design are supported.

How First Nations representatives can be involved:

  • Dedicated engagement meetings with Traditional Owners and community members.
  • Involvement in co-design workshops for public spaces and precinct planning.
  • Opportunities for cultural representation in design, signage, and interpretation.
  • Ongoing consultation throughout the review process.

The City of Mandurah values and respects First Nations contributions and is committed to ensuring that Mandurah’s city centre reflects its deep cultural heritage and connection to Country.

The Mandurah Centre Plan covers an area spanning across Central Mandurah and including sections of Dudley Park, Silver Sands and the Mandurah Marina. You can view the entire area on the site map in the documents section of this page.
