The Local Government Act 1995 enables Western Australian local governments to make local laws which are considered necessary for the good government of their districts.

The City of Mandurah has a number of local laws that govern activities on land that is owned or managed by the City, as well as certain activities conducted on private land within the District.

These local laws are enforceable by the City and the City may authorise officers to enforce the local laws on its behalf.

All local laws undergo periodical review, at a minimum of every 8 years. The local laws currently under review and open for submissions from the public are listed below:

    At its meeting of 23 April 2024, Council resolved to adopt the proposed Animals, Environment and Nuisance Amendment Local Law 2024 for advertising.

    Proposed Animals, Environment & Nuisance Amendment Local Law 2024

    Purpose: to amend provisions within the City of Mandurah Animals, Environment and Nuisance Local Law 2010 for the regulation, control and management of animals and the prevention of environmental damage and nuisances within the District of Mandurah.

    Effect: is to ensure that the Animals, Environment and Nuisance Local Law is as clear and effective as possible in prescribing and managing the requirements with which any person keeping animals, harbouring pest plants or undertaking activities that have the potential to impact the environment or create nuisance must comply.

    The closing date for all submissions is Friday, 14 June 2024.

    Proposed Waste Management Local Law 2024

    Purpose: to provide for the administration of sustainable waste and recycling services, the establishment, provision, use and control of cost effective and functional waste management practices, and the operation of the City’s waste management facility.

    Effect: to establish and control the collection and disposal of waste, including the use of receptacles, for the benefit of the community and protection of the environment.
