What are local laws?

Local laws are rules made by the City of Mandurah that help manage how shared spaces, buildings, neighbourhoods and certain activities operate in our community. They help ensure our City remains safe, fair and enjoyable for everyone.

Some parts of the City's Consolidated Local Laws have been in place since 1998. We're reviewing the remaining sections to make sure they are still needed, align with current legislation and continue to meet the needs of our community today.

What are the Consolidated Local Laws?

The Consolidated Local Laws were originally one large local law covering many different topics. Over time, most of these topics were replaced with separate local laws, making them easier to find and understand.

This review focuses on the remaining sections of the original Consolidated Local Laws.

Local governments in WA must review their local laws under the Local Government Act 1995. This is to make sure they:

  • Meet community needs
  • Follow other State Government laws
  • Are clear and easy to understand

Have your say 💬

We want to hear your views on the City's remaining parts of the Consolidated Local Laws. Your input will help Council decide whether these laws should stay the same, be updated or be removed.

This local law contains six remaining parts. Each part is listed below and the City’s full list of local laws is available to read here.

We're seeking feedback on whether these local laws:

  • Are still needed
  • Are easy to understand
  • Reflect current community needs
  • Should stay the same, be updated or be removed

You can have your say by:

  • Completing the short survey below, or
  • Sending in written feedback

The survey closes at 5pm on 12 November 2026.

All feedback will be shared with Council before they make a final decision.

What happens after the review?

After considering community feedback, Council will decide whether each local law should:

  • Stay the same
  • Be updated
  • Be removed

If Council supports changes to a local law, a draft updated version will be prepared and released for further public comment before any final decision is made.

Updates and next steps will be published on this page.
