Thank you for having your say, the City of Mandurah's Environment Strategy has now been endorsed.
We know the environment matters in Mandurah. For many, it’s what makes living here so special…what makes us love living here. We are also part of the global biodiversity hotspot, home to a range of unique plants, animals, and environments found nowhere else in the world.
The City's DRAFT Environment Strategy 2023-2033 brings together all of the City's environmental work and provides clear direction and priorities for the future as we protect and nurture this unique environment to continue to share it with generations to come.
We worked closely with staff, Elected Members, environmental groups, Aboriginal Elders and the broader community to shape a shared vision that reflects our connection to and hope for our natural environment, and we need your input again now before the strategy is finalised.

DRAFT Environment Strategy Open for Feedback
The DRAFT Environment Strategy 2023-2033 is now open for comment. You can view the draft strategy and provide your feedback in the Feedback Forum or Feedback Survey before September 30 2023.
We all have a role to play in protecting and nurturing our environment and shaping our future Mandurah. The strategy has been developed collaboratively through:
1. Review of work we already do in the space and previous community consultation
2. Consultation with Elected Members and City staff
3. Targeted engagement with environmental volunteers, community groups and advisory groups
4. Engagement with partner environmental, government and non-government organisations
5. Whole community consultation during September 2023
This consultation to date has helped us develop a strategy that meets the vision of our community for "a healthy and diverse natural environment where walk softly on our Mandjoogoordap". This strategy sets out a number of key management actions that fall under themes drawn from the community narrative in the City's Strategic Community Plan (2020-2040) and encourages us to work collaboratively across management areas.
OUR THEMES:
Built in nature, not on nature
Enhancing biodiversity and prioritising local, native species
Enhancement of green spaces
Urban Canopy
Sustainable Transport Networks
Drainage and Water Sensitive Urban Design
Water quality
Woven by waterways:
Coastal and foreshore management
Enhancement of blue spaces
Estuarine Ecology
Lead and serve in equal measures:
Water Security
Waste minimisation and management
Renewable energy and mitigation
Corporate energy and water efficiency
Sustainable Buildings and Operations
Ecotourism
Stewards of the environment, custodians of our culture:
Aboriginal Culture

We have also created three environmental constants which are concepts that should be considered across everything we do and are embedded across every theme and priority management area.

Risk Management
Future thinking
Engagement and Education
Collaboration andcommunication
Open to feedback

Our Environmental Narrative
This is the story of our environment, why it matters to us and how we hope it is cared for and thrives into the future. This narrative is spoken by our staff and volunteers.
