A complete infrastructure upgrade is proposed for Smart Street Mall with the primary focus being to create an adaptable, pedestrian focused, activated street. The master plan for the upgrade adopted by Council at its meeting on April 30 2019. The master plan for the upgrade has since been updated to reflect the detailed design and planning for the project.
The City has allocated $2.5 million towards implementing the infrastructure upgrade proposals over two financial years. The infrastructure upgrade is one part of ensuring that Smart Street is seen as a ‘successful place’. In addition, the City is working on a range of initiatives in conjunction with property owners and businesses to re-energise the economy, now and into the future, including:
Activation programs including a busker/street performer program, markets and events
Day and night security patrols and
Alfresco incentive programs
The first phase of the upgrade, the pedestrian mall area is completed. Works on the upgrade of the remaining section of the street and shelter installation will take place in 2023/24.
Community engagement for this project is closed. Learn more about the project implementation on mandurah.wa.gov.au/waterfront.
