South East Dawesville Foreshore project update - April 2025

The South East Dawesville Channel Foreshore is taking shape, with the future community space coming to life after construction kicked off in February.

Several key milestones have been reached since works began, including completion of preliminary earthworks, and the installation of concrete footpaths.

The transformation of the area into a family-friendly foreshore is on track to be completed by June 2025.

The upgrades include a large playground area, shelters, seating, and much more to be installed over the coming months.

In total, the full scope of works includes:

  • Construction of a large, fenced playground area
  • Turfed recreation and picnic spaces
  • Revegetation and native planting
  • Retaining existing trees and planting new trees
  • Improved path connections
  • Shelters, tables and seating
  • Half-court for basketball and netball
  • An additional car park, including ACROD bays
  • Designated locations for food vans
  • Nesting boxes in mature trees

The existing car park has been closed to facilitate the works on site, and will re-open once the project is completed by the end of June. A new and more accessible car park is being built as part of the project, however verge parking is still available for the public who wish to access the current barbecue, picnic and beach areas in the meantime.

The play equipment has been designed to compliment the area’s natural environment, and will include timber climbing structures, a large bird’s nest swing, and natural components like rocks, logs, and lawn.

Existing tuart and sheoak trees will be protected during the works, with a further 66 native trees and more than 4000 native plants to be planted in the area.

Construction of the South East Dawesville Channel Foreshore is one of several key City of Mandurah projects helping to shape Mandurah’s southern community, with the Dawesville Community Centre and Street Tree Planting Program also focused on improving our built and natural environment south of the bridge.
