Mississippi-Amazon Park, Greenfields

This park has been identified as a priority neighbourhood park for improvement, with the existing facilities no longer meeting the needs and expectations of the local community.
The planned upgrade will focus on creating a useable, functional and welcoming space for recreation, while protecting and enhancing the park’s existing native trees to support landscape amenity and biodiversity.
Key dates
- Consultation opens: 1 October 2026
- Consultation closes: 2 November 2026

What's being considered?
- New play elements
- New paths and improved accessibility
- Accessible seating and picnic facilities
- Improvements to the grassed areas
- New landscape planting
- Water supply to the site
- Drainage improvements
- Improvements to the overall park amenity
Exploring the sump area
One of the opportunities being investigated is whether the existing sump area can be opened up and integrated into the park, potentially creating additional usable space for the community.
Engineering investigations planned for 2026/27 will assess the existing sump, including options to flatten the embankments and remove the existing security fencing. The findings will help determine whether the area can safely and practically be incorporated into the park.
What happens next?
During 2026/27, the City will undertake engineering investigations and community engagement to help inform the future design of the park.
Community feedback, together with the outcomes of the drainage investigations and available budget, will inform an approved landscape concept.
The project will then progress to detailed landscape design, procurement and construction, with the park upgrade currently planned for 2027/28.
We look forward to working with the community to create a park that better meets local recreational needs while celebrating and protecting the park’s existing natural character.
