Why is this park being upgraded?

Norwich Reserve is a large local park that is well used by the surrounding residents. Previous community engagement has indicated a high level of support to improve this park. The surrounding neighbourhood has grown significantly in the last decade with many children living there. There is a distinct lack of facilities to support the park's functions and large size. The park has irrigation and lawns established and considerable natural value which can be enhanced by a reserve upgrade.

What kind of input are you looking for?

We want to hear your thoughts about Norwich Reserve. What's good or bad about it? How do you like to use this space and why? Or if you don't use the space, why not? Why do you value this space or others like it? We will choose specific design elements which align with the suggestions and values identified.

What changes will be made and why?

It has previously been identified that paths, seating and picnic facilities are lacking. Our community has also noted potential improvements such as an irrigated grass surface and native planting. Some of these changes may be made if there is still sufficient community support, however, the City will also consider additional feedback and ideas. While all of these suggestions may not be able to be implemented, the design will work to reflect these desires identified by the community.

Will existing trees be removed and will new trees be planted?

When a plan is created, it will ensure retention of any valued park facilities on the site without requiring removal of any trees and including new plantings. It will also include as many improved facilities the community have requested as possible. We will also consider the community’s perspective on where you would like to see more trees or what kind of trees you would like to see planted.

What I like the park as it is and don't want to see any changes?

Previous community consultation has shown that our community wants more activated parks and spaces for a better Mandurah, and we agree. However, if you like the current park the way it is and don't want to see any changes, we still want to know. We want to know what are the most loved aspects of this space so we can retain or enhance them. All feedback from our community is extremely valuable and will be taken into consideration during the design process.

    What happens next?

We will be gathering input from the online survey and a drop-in session with City staff will be held on 5 March 2025.

The community ideas and needs we hear will be developed into a concept design by a landscape architect. This will be presented back to the community for feedback, before being amended as required and implemented.

The installation stage will be dependent on what the final design contains, updates will be provided on the main page. Budget has been included in the long term financial plan in 25/26 for the park upgrades. Delivery of the park upgrade is subject to budget being approved by Council early in the new financial year.

Will our rates be increased to pay for the development?

No, rates will not be increased in the area to pay for the park development. Your current rates contribution determines the City's budget and upgrades to this park will align with this budget.

What is the budget for the renewal?

There is a combined budget of $470,000.00 for the upgrade of the park. This is included in the long-term financial plan for the 2025/26 financial year.

This covers improvements to the wider park area, which could be anything from earthworks, walls, paths, furniture, shelters, picnic facilities, goal posts and anything else you might like to see in the park, as long as it fits within the budget.
