FAQs
Why is the BMX track being upgraded?
Roy Tuckey Reserve BMX track is a degraded track situated within the Roy Tuckey Reserve, located in Dudley Park. The surrounding neighbourhood has grown significantly in the last decade with many children living in the area now. Currently within the reserve there is a distinct lack of facilities to support that growth. Previous community engagement has indicated a high level of support to improve this BMX track into something the community can use.
What kind of input are you looking for?
We want to hear your thoughts about the upgrade of the BMX track. What's good or bad about it? How do you like to use this space and why? Or if you don't use the space, why not? Why do you value this space or others like it? We will choose specific design elements which align with the suggestions and values identified.
What changes will be made and why?
It has previously been identified that the degraded BMX track, paths, seating and picnic facilities are insufficient for community needs. Our community has also noted potential improvements such as more trees and native planting. Some of these changes may be made if there is still sufficient community support and budget allows, however, the City will also consider additional feedback and ideas. While all of these suggestions may not be able to be implemented, the design will work to reflect these desires identified by the community.
Will existing trees be removed and will new trees be planted?
When a plan is created, it will ensure retention of any valued park facilities on the site without requiring removal of any existing trees and could also include new trees. It will also include as many improved facilities the community have requested as possible, in addition to the BMX track upgrade. We will also consider the community’s perspective on where you would like to see more trees or what kind of trees you would like to see planted.
What if I like the park as it is and don't want to see any changes?
Previous community consultation has shown that our community wants more activated parks and spaces for a better Mandurah, and we agree. But if you like the current park the way it is and don't want to see any changes, we still want to know. We want to know what the most loved aspects of this space are so we can retain or enhance them. All feedback from our community is extremely valuable and will be taken into consideration during the design process.
What happens next?
We will be gathering input from the online survey and a drop-in session with City staff will be held on March 18, 2025.
The community ideas and needs we hear for the BMX track will be developed into a concept design by Three Chillies Design. Any additional requests for park facilities and trees will be incorporated into the overall park design by the City of Mandurah’s Landscape Architects. This will be presented back to the community for feedback, before being amended as required and implemented.
The installation stage will be dependent on what the final design contains, updates will be provided on the main page. Budget has been included in the long term financial plan in 25/26 for the BMX track upgrade. Delivery of the upgrade is subject to budget being approved by Council early in the new financial year.
Will our rates be increased to pay for the development?
No, rates will not be increased in the area to pay for the park development. Your current rates contribution determines the City's budget and upgrades to this park will align with this budget.
What is the budget for the renewal?
A budget of $170,000 for the BMX track upgrade is included in the long term financial plan for the 2025/2026 financial year.
Besides the BMX track upgrade, this could also include some additional improvements to the wider park area, which could be anything from earthworks, paths, furniture, picnic facilities and anything else you might like to see in the park, as long as it fits within the budget.
