Florida Beach Foreshore

Why is this foreshore being upgraded?

Florida Beach Foreshore is a local park that is well used by the surrounding residents. Previous community engagement has indicated a high level of support to improve this area. The surrounding neighbourhood has grown significantly in the last decade with many children living nearby, and there is a distinct lack of facilities to support the foreshores functions and large size.

Upgrading the space would enable it to better serve the Florida community, giving local families and residents a more vibrant space to relax and play.

What kind of input are you looking for?

We want to hear your thoughts about Florida Beach Foreshore. What's good or bad about it? How do you like to use this space and why? Or if you don't use the space, why not? Why do you value this space or others like it? We will choose specific design elements which align with the suggestions and values identified.

What changes will be made and why?

It has previously been identified that the playground facilities at Florida Foreshore are outdated. Our community has also noted potential improvements such as showers, connective pathways and native planting. Some of these changes may be made if there is still sufficient community support, however, the City will also consider additional feedback and ideas. While all these suggestions may not be able to be implemented, the design will work to reflect these desires identified by the community.

Will existing trees be removed? And will new trees be planted?

When a plan is created, it will ensure retention of any valued park facilities on the site without requiring removal of any trees and including new plantings. It will also include as many improved facilities the community have requested as possible. We will also consider the community’s perspective on where you would like to see more trees or what kind of trees you would like to see planted.

What if I like Florida Foreshore the way it is and don't want to see any changes?

Previous community consultation has shown that our community wants more activated parks and spaces for a better Mandurah, and we agree. But if you like the current park the way it is and don't want to see any changes, we still want to know. We want to know what the most loved aspects of this space are so we can retain or enhance them. All feedback from our community is extremely valuable and will be taken into consideration during the design process.

Will rates be increased to pay for the development?

No, rates will not be increased in the area to pay for the park development. Your current rates contribution determines the City's budget and upgrades to this park will align with this budget.

    What happens next?

The community feedback we receive will be developed into a concept design by a landscape architect. This will be presented back to the community for feedback, before being amended as required and implemented.

The installation stage will be dependent on what the final design contains, updates will be provided on the main page. Budget has been included in the long-term financial plan in 26/27 for the park upgrades. Delivery of the park upgrade is subject to budget being approved by Council early in the new financial year.
