We're renewing the Harold Thompson Park Car Park and want your feedback. Tell us how you currently use the car park and surrounding areas and let us know what you think of the draft design.

About the Project

We're planning to renew the Harold Thompson Park car park to make it safer, easier to use and better suited to the needs of our community.

The current car park is due for renewal, and we've developed a draft design that aims to improve parking, accessibility, safety and overall functionality.

As part of this project, we're also looking at how surrounding areas are used where they relate to parking. For example, we know some visitors choose to park on nearby verges instead of in the car park. We want to understand why this happens so we can consider it as we refine the design.

The draft design includes improvements such as:

๐Ÿš— Renewing the car park surface
๐Ÿ…ฟ๏ธ Improving the parking layout
โ™ฟ Enhancing accessibility and pedestrian access
๐Ÿฆบ Improving safety for people using the area
๐ŸŒฑ Exploring ways to reduce informal verge parking
โœ… Making the car park more functional for current and future users

Before the design is finalised, we'd like to hear from the people who use the area most.

Share Your Thoughts

We want to ensure the upgraded car park works well for the people who use it and the surrounding areas.

We've developed a draft design, but local knowledge can help us understand whether we've got it right and identify any improvements we may have missed.

We're seeking feedback on two key areas:

How you currently use the car park

We'd like to understand:

The draft design

We'd also like your feedback on the proposed improvements, including:
  • How often you use the car park
  • The overall layout
  • What you use it for
  • Parking arrangements
  • When you typically visit
  • Access and accessibility
  • Any challenges you experience
  • Safety considerations
  • If you don't use the car park, why not
  • Any opportunities for improvement

We're particularly interested in understanding why some people park on nearby verges rather than in designated parking spaces.

Have Your Say

We'd love to hear your thoughts. You can get involved by:

  • Completing the short online survey
  • Come and have a chat with us during our community drop in - Thursday 12 November, 4-6pm, Harold Thompson Park Car Park
  • You can also provide written feedback via the survey available from our libraries.

Consultation closes: 5pm on Monday 30 November 2026

Your feedback will help us better understand how the car park is used and ensure the final design meets community needs.

What Happens Next

After consultation closes, we'll review all feedback received from the community.

We'll consider both the feedback about how the car park is currently used and comments on the draft design. This information will help us identify any changes that may be needed before the design is finalised.

We'll continue to provide project updates on this page as the project progresses.
