    Will the centre be energy efficient?

    An analysis of the building has been undertaken with the City’s appointed Green Star consultant to incorporate passive and active design principles to support a 5 Star Green Star rating (eg. central light well/skylight, supplementary natural ventilation to the building, flexible mechanical systems, high performance glazing and wall cladding system, sun shading devices, integrated blinds etc). The inclusion of a 30KW photovoltaic system and EV charging is also incorporated as an essential component of the Green Star design.

    Sustainable materials and finishes have been selected to provide a good indoor environment quality and a healthy environment for building occupants and visitors. Durability and ease of maintenance has also guided the selection of finishes to the building externally and internally.

    Where will the centre be located?

    The centre is being built on the corner of Dandaragan Drive and Woodstock Avenue.

    When will the centre open?

    The centre is expected to be open in late 2025, with construction on track to be completed by mid-2025.

    Will there be City services operating from the Dawesville Community Centre?

    It is anticipated that the City will initially activate Dawesville Community Centre with activities that could include arts classes, Seniors Centre pop-up activities, youth development pop-up activities, and some form of library program delivery (such as Rhyme Time). The City will also be actively seeking to collaborate with the local community to attract activation initiatives that align with the City’s Place Enrichment Strategy 2023 - 2028.

    Will the facility have a hall to hire?

    The facility will have a hall space available for hire. The hall can be available as one large space and can also be broken up in to two halls via an acoustic wall that hirers can manually fold back. When hiring the halls, users will have access to a kitchen that will be equipped with services to heat food, refrigeration and a versatile kitchen space.

    Will the centre have a sports hall?

    The facility will have a hall, but it has been designed for community events and not suitable for sports such as netball, basketball, badminton, etc. The floor of the halls will be carpet, not timber. The space is more suitable for use by community groups, private functions, membership clubs and mothers’ groups.

    Will the centre have a space for a playgroup?

    The facility is designed to accommodate a children’s space, and it is anticipated that this could facilitate activities such as a play groups. The area has been designed with storage and a kitchenette area, along with play elements.

    Will the centre have public toilets?

    No, the facility will not have public toilets. The facility will have private toilets available to those people who have hired the facility.

    Will the centre have office space for hire?

    The facility has been designed with three office spaces along with a possible reception or fourth office. The office spaces will be available for hire via the City of Mandurah. The office space will be partially furnished with a desk and chairs and will include internet access.

    Who is funding the Dawesville Community Centre project?

    The project is being funded by Department of Primary Industries ($6.2 million) and Lottery West ($2.65 million).

    What hours will the centre be open? And will it be disruptive to locals?

    The centre will not have designated open and closed hours. Its use will depend on the users who hire it. However, the City is aware of its proximity to housing and will be developing terms and conditions which must be adhered to by those hiring the centre, which will include recognition of its location.

    Will there be meeting rooms available in the centre?

    The facility includes a number of community meeting spaces that will be available for hire via the City of Mandurah's facility booking portal. A link to the portal will be posted here closer to the opening date.

    Is there a designated parking area and/or public transport?

    There will be designated car parking space for users of the facility. There will be seven parking bays, two uvniversally accessible bays and two electric vehicle charging bays. Please refer to the Transperth website for public transport routes that provide a stop off point close to the facility.

    Has the centre been designed with safety in mind?

    Dawesville Community Centre will have an integrated CCTV system and secure entry / exit with high-quality lighting in and around the precinct. Any concerns about suspicious activities should be reported to Police on 131 444 or 000 in the case of an emergency.
