Coodanup Foreshore project update - October 2025

Stage 3 of the Coodanup Foreshore upgrades is almost complete, with the area expected to open to the public by early November.

The project has reached some big milestones in recent weeks, with the new car park now sealed and line-marked, and most of the new footpaths, limestone trails, furniture pads and informal seating areas installed.

The team will focus on the finishing touches over the next few weeks, including new picnic tables, seats and a shelter, adding car park fixtures, spreading mulch, and tidying up the site.

Once open, the improved foreshore will make it easier for everyone to enjoy the area’s natural beauty with better access, walking paths, and spots to sit and relax by the water.

As part of the upgrades, a new public sculpture will soon be installed, celebrating Coodanup’s special connection to nature and birdlife.

The sculpture has been designed by WA artists Kallie Turner and Neil Turner. It tells the story of 22 species of migratory shorebirds that travel thousands of kilometres from Alaska and Siberia to reach Coodanup each year. The artwork’s flowing steel loops show the movement of birds flying together, and silhouettes of the Bar-tailed Godwit – one of the world’s great long-distance travellers – are featured throughout.

More than five million migratory birds make their way to Mandurah each year via the East-Asian Australasian Flyway, making our estuary a significant area for a wide variety of waterbirds.

The bright orange colour of the artwork was inspired by local shorebirds like the Ruddy Turnstone and Redshank.

Made from strong, coastal-grade materials, the sculpture is designed to last and to blend naturally with the foreshore. It will be a new local landmark and a reminder of Coodanup’s important role as a safe home for birdlife within the Peel-Harvey Estuary.

Guided by the Coodanup Foreshore Master Plan, upgrades to this important public space are supporting our community to gather, play and experience nature in an accessible space.
